Ben started at $600, as he always does, but Mark got the $800 and $1000 clues in WAR STORIES to jump to an early lead! Ben got 8 of the first 14 clues before the break, though; scores were as follows:
Ben $5,000
Mark $3,400
Dawn $1,600
In Mark's hometown, the high school marching band wears wooden shoes! Apparently they wear 6 or 7 pairs of socks, and it feels like normal shoes!
The first clue out of the break (THE LAW $800) had the Daily Double, and it was Ben's to play! He bet $1,600 and struggled with the following clue: Oddly, this term for a trial postponement comes from the Latin for "uninterrupted". Ben went for "adjournment" and his score fell to $3,400.
I'm sure Ben made a bunch of people back home happy by calling the Civil War "The War Between The States" on one clue! In the latter half of the round, Ben did pick up 10 of the 15 clues, including 7 straight, regaining his lead!
The only Triple Stumper was the final clue - POKER WORDS $1000 -- A steep cliff. Alex said he always gets in trouble when he tries to do it!

Following this, Ben started to struggle a bit! He took negs on clues like ("BAR"RAGE $1200) "Adjective for crude & uncivilized practices" and (19th CENTURY NOVEL QUOTES $1200) ""Miss Havisham was alone. 'Well?' said she, fixing her eyes upon me. 'I hope you want nothing? You'll get nothing"'". Both were rebounded by Mark!
Meanwhile, Dawn started to get her score up, and found the final Daily Double, under ANNIVERSARY GIFTS $2000. Scores were:

Dawn $11,800
Mark $11,600
Dawn said: "Well, I might be crazy, but I'm gonna bet $10,000." Her clue: 40th: A "pigeon's blood" one of these. Alex's response of "Oh, Dawn...you got it!" cruelly made Dawn think she'd missed the question! Her score went to $21,800!
Over the rest of the round, Mark picked up 5 clues and Ben 2. 2 clues went unplayed, and Ben found himself in 3rd place going into Final!

Dawn's response was "I have no idea" - but that's probably a good strategy, considering that she'd chosen to bet $0!
