     Sam found the Daily Double of the round in In the Capital City. He'd gotten 5 right and had 1800. Les had gotten 5 right also and had 2800. Katrina had gotten one right and had 200. Sam wagered everything on this clue: "Nov. 7, 1867: The future Marie Curie is born." Sam answered quickly, and was right. Katrina answered the next 2, and had 2000 at the break.
     Les didn't specify in his interview whether he and the person with whom he had a long-distance relationship are still together! For that matter I don't think he mentioned whether it was a man or a woman.
     As for Sam's interview, did you think his speech pattern was a little like Wolf Blitzer's?
     This clue made me happy, in Johnny Gilbert Goes to the Movies: "'Fiddle-dee-dee! War, war, war; the war talk's spoiling all the fun at every party this spring.'" I knew this one instantly, but I haven't seen the movie!
     At the end of the round, Katrina had gotten 3 right and one wrong and had 2800. Sam had gotten 5 right and 2 wrong, and had 5400. Les had gotten 6 right and one wrong and had 5800.
     Sam found the first Daily Double of Double Jeopardy rather quickly. He'd gotten 4 right though, and had 8600. Les still had 5800, and Katrina had 4000 after getting one right. Sam wagered 4000 on this clue in The Colombia Encyclopedia: "Under 'e': Many Spanish explorers came to Colombia searching for this fabled city of gold." Sam and I got it right.
     I don't know what came over Les in Double Jeopardy, but he began to select very slowly. It didn't matter in the end, because we saw all the clues. He found the second Daily Double of the round, in Alphabetically First. He'd gotten 7 right and one wrong since Sam's Daily Double, and had 15000. Sam still led though, having gotten 4 right and then 16600. Katrina had gotten one right and had 5600. Les wagered on this easy one: "Of the first ladies' first names."
     At the end of the round, Les had gotten one right after his Daily Double and had 20400. Katrina had gotten 4 right and had 10400, and Sam had gotten 3 right and 2 wrong, and had 19000.
     The Final Jeopardy category was American Scientists. This was the clue: "In 1920 the N.Y. Times said he lacks the 'knowledge ladled out daily in high schools;' On July 17, 1969, the paper apologized." This was a triple-stumper, and I didn't get it either. Katrina lost 10100. Sam lost 6600, and Les lost 17601! So Sam will be back tomorrow!
     My Coryat today was 19600 (23200 without negs).
