Yes I did so totally sweep Short & Tweet. I wonder what the subject of this clue would say about being described this way: "@JLo (a former TV show judge)." By the way, who else, by the time this publishes, watched the American Idol final? J. Lo performed. And that's good they just accepted "the Pope" on this one, despite the description of the subject: "@Pontifex (He's new on the job.)" Pope Benedict XVI was the first to use it. And of course I couldn't believe this was a triple-stumper: "@aplusk (a TV sitcom man)."
Trevor found the Daily Double of the Jeopardy round, in Symbols. Mr. Trebek said he had a "big lead," 5200 to Jim's 1600 and Kristen's 400. He'd gotten 8 right, while Jim had gotten 4 right and Kristen got one right. Here's the clue (I'm glad to not have to take a picture): "The phoenix rising from the ashes is the symbol of this southern capital that arose from the ashes." Trevor didn't get it. He lost 3000. This was the last clue before the first break.
I said what Jim did on this first clue after the break, in Yes, "Way": "Eliminating static is one way to tame hair that's described as this 7-letter synonym for windblown." And yes I did totally tweet my congressman this clue in the same category. (He's in this committee.) "Michigan congressman Dave Camp chairs this House committee." I hope Andy didn't see that tweet before he saw the episode. Like most anyone, he doesn't seem to like spoilers!
At the end of the first round, Jim had 6000. He'd gotten 7 right and one wrong since the break. Trevor had 4200 after getting 3 right. Kristen had gotten 4 right and one wrong, and had 2400.
Speaking of Idol above, did you guys see the subject of this clue on the show (category Music of Today): "She co-wrote the Miley Cyrus hit 'Party in the U.S.A.' and co-wrote her own hit heard here." (They didn't show this video, but I am.) By the way, I was once told I look like her. (It was the hair and maybe makeup, I'm sure.)
I got this triple-stumper in Using Algebra After High School (yes, before Trevor forgot to phrase it in the form of a question): "3x-y=8; 2x + y=7; solve for x & y."
Trevor found the first Daily Double in Double Jeopardy, in New in Oxford. He'd gotten 5 right in the round and the one wrong, and had 6600. Jim had gotten 4 right and had 10800. Kristen had gotten 5 right and 2 wrong and had 4400. Trevor wagered 4000 on this clue: "2-word alliterative movement that asks ISPs to allow access to all content equally." Trevor smiled while the clue was being read, and got it right.
Kristen found the next Daily Double in Theater. She'd gotten 2 right since the last Daily Double, and had 5200. Jim had gotten one right and had 12800, and Trevor still had 10600. This was the no-brainer clue, on which Kristen wagered 3000: "This Jonathan Larson musical was loosely based on the opera 'La Boheme.'" She got it right. I swept the category, by the way.
At the end of the round, Jim had 17200. He'd gotten 3 right since Kristen's Daily Double. Trevor had 11800 after getting one right, and Kirsten had 13000 after getting 3 right.
The Final Jeopardy category was 20th Century Presidents. This was the easy-seeming clue: "These 2 men followed each other consecutively as vice president & later, in reverse order, as president." Sure it seemed easy, but it was a triple-stumper, and I didn't get it either. Trevor lost 800, Kristen lost 3000, and Jim lost 8600. So he has 8600 going into day 2, Trevor has 11000, and Kristen has 10000. It's very close.
My Coryat today was 25600 (28400 without negs). If I'd rung in on more Symbols clues today, it would be higher.
