Good day, Andy here with the final recap of the week!

Jerald Lentini and Mark Reeves are the challengers for John Anneken; John won $32,911 in his first two games. Will he make it 3 wins?

J! round categories:
NATIONAL HOLIDAYS
FILMMAKING
THE BIG "BOARD"
CALIFORNIA
NO ANIMALS WERE HARMED
SEEKING ASYLUM

THE BIG "BOARD" was the first category that John went to, and the bottom of it held the Daily Double! Jerald got to play it with the following scores:

Jerald $1,400
John $400
Mark $200

Jerald made it a True Daily Double! His clue: In the 1950s the Brown family took on this Topeka organization in the Supreme Court. His correct response put him at $2,800.

I'm glad that NATIONAL HOLIDAYS were a category about non-American holidays!

At the end of THE BIG "BOARD", NATIONAL HOLIDAYS, and SEEKING ASYLUM, it was a very close game (and no Triple Stumpers). The scores were:

John $3,200
Jerald $3,200
Mark $3,000

Coming out of the break, the game belonged mostly to the two J's!

Triple Stumper at NO ANIMALS WERE HARMED $600: Feathers & Latitudes

By the end of 30 clues, the scores were:

Jerald $8,000
John $5,000
Mark $2,800

DJ! round categories:
BRITISH LIT
INTERNET-BUSINESS.COM
14-LETTER WORDS
FAMOUS AMERICANS
COLORFUL SONGS
SEEKING ASYLUMS

A costly mistake for Mark at BRITISH LIT $2000 ("Black Beauty", written toward the end of her life, was her only novel; Mark called her Anne! Oops!

Mark recovered for himself quite well, and by the end of FAMOUS AMERICANS, had tied for the lead!

Finally, the first Daily Double came out, on the 26th clue of the round, under 14-LETTER WORDS $1600! The scores were:

John $12,600
Jerald $12,000
Mark $10,000

John bet $4,000, surprising Alex! His clue: Here's Faust, with this fellow in red who's one heck of a bargainer - a key get on a difficult clue (I didn't know it!) brought him to $16,600.

John, the good player he is, went to SEEKING ASYLUM seeking the other Daily Double, but he picked the wrong clue. Mark took control and found the final Daily Double at $2,000!

Scores (with a $400 and $2000 clue remaining):

John $15,000
Jerald $12,000
Mark $11,600

I'd bet $6,000 here in Mark's shoes. Mark bet $2,000. Sigh. His clue: Composer Bedrich Smetana died in an asylum in this world capital. His immediate correct response put him $13,600. Mark did not get either of the final two clues, leading to the following scores going into Final:

John $15,000
Mark $13,600
Jerald $11,600

FJ! category: SCIENCE

FJ! clue: For a 1953 paper Odile Crick drew the diagram showing the structure of this

Jerald 11600 + 11000 = 22600
Mark 13600 + 12000 = 25600
John 15000 + 12201 = 27201

John's now a 3-day champion, total $60,112 - and Mark's left wondering what might have been...you have to play to win the game on Daily Doubles!

He'll be back in a couple of weeks; the College Championship begins next Monday! I'll have the first quarterfinal!

ToC update:

1. Reserved for May 2013 College Champion
2. Drew Horwood $138,100 (8 wins)
3. Joshua Brakhage $103,205 (5 wins)
4. Rebecca Rider $101,600 (5 wins)
5. Adam Holquist $76,299 (3 wins)
6. Sara Garnett $75,403 (3 wins)
7. Salvo Candela $66,195 (3 wins)
8. John Anneken $60,112 (3 wins)
