Will today's contestants make yesterday's train wreck seem like a distant memory?

Laurel Schultz
Michael won yesterday's episode; his first. All was forgiven for yesterday, as far as I was concerned, when he went to Baseball Bits first today.
I counted "big break" for this one in I Need a "Break": "To an actor, this menacing phrase actually expresses hopes for success."
At the first break, Michael and Laurel were tied with 3200. Laurel had gotten 7 right and one wrong, and Michael had gotten 5 right. Bill had gotten 2 right.
Laurel's interview caught my sister's ear - She wanted to know for which part of the federal government Laurel works.
Michael found the first Daily Double of the game in Taste Buds. He'd gotten 4 right since the break and had 6200. Laurel had gotten 3 right and had 4800. Bill had gotten one right and had 1400. Michael wagered 2000 on this clue: "M & Ms were named for Bruce Murrie & his partner, this candy 'm'aker. Michael and I got this one easily. "Piece of cake," Mr. Trebek said.
I counted "boat" for this one in Let's Go to Tahiti: "Called Va'a in the native tongue, a sport using the outrigger variety of this is a major sport in Tahiti."
At the end of the round, Michael led with 8200. He'd gotten 2 right and one wrong since his Daily Double. Laurel had gotten 3 right and had 7000. Bill had gotten one right and had 2200.
The first Daily Double was only the second clue of Double Jeopardy. Bill had gotten that first clue right and had 2600 now. He wagered 2500 (why not all of it?) on this clue in 20th Century Playwrights: "'Glengarry Glen Ross,' about desperate real estate salesmen, won him a Pulitzer." Bill and I got this one easily.
My sister asked later if I was going to mention she got this triple-stumper in "De" Best People: "Most of this French author's 250 short stories, including 'Ball of Fat,' were written in the 1880s." I got this triple-stumper later in All-Time 100 Songs: "'This haunting...hit from Sinead O'Connor's 1990 album...is a case of right song, right singer, right time." (We're talking "Time" as in the magazine.) Michael left the last clue in the category for Daughters in Mythology only for Laurel to get that one right, then return to find the Daily Double in All-Time 100 Songs. She'd gotten 7 right since Bill's Daily Double, and had 15000. Bill had gotten 2 right and had 7100. Michael had gotten 7 right and had 17000. Laurel wagered 5000 on this clue: "This 1939 tune is 'often considered the greatest movie song of all time, but it almost didn't make it into the final cut." And once again, this was a breeze for both me and the contestant.
Every time I see it I'm more surprised Michael's response was accepted to this last clue in I'd Like to Solve the Puzzle...Fast!: "As the morning and evening star, this meso-American deity was the symbol of death and resurrection: q___z_______." He butchered it twice, but Mr. Trebek gave it to him. He'd gotten 5 right then since Laurel's Daily Double and had 21800 going into the Final. Laurel had gotten 2 right and had 22400. Bill had gotten one right and had 8700.
The Final Jeopardy category was Geographic Math. This was the clue: "North America's 3 mainland countries have a total of 91 states & provinces; Mexico has this many states." Bill got it right, and he looked confident. He doubled his score! Michael and Laurel got it wrong. Michael lost 19598! Laurel lost 21600! Whoo! So Bill wins.
My Coryat today was 25000; 27200 without negs.
