Ryan #JeopardyVote The Sequel

     Mr. Trebek reminded us at the top of today's episode to vote for our favorite 2000s contestant. I'm reminding you too, but specifically, vote for Ryan Chaffee. Here's the Jeopardy! site, and you can also vote via Twitter and Facebookdaily.
     My Coryat for this weekend's rerun was 23400 (28800 without negs). I watched this show after watching today's episode, so I was led astray by this clue worth 1600 in The Great Libraries of Europe: "This Danish astronomer died in Prague in 1601, & the Clementinum National Library there has material relating to him." Today's clue, in Libraries: "A library at the American Institute of Physics is named for this great Dane." Emily Horne said "Brahe" and Mr. Trebek acted like she was nuts. I got that one right. Then on the former clue, I said what I did on the latter, and I should've said "Brahe." Anyway this rerun originally aired 7-5-13. The first time I played, my Coryat was 23200 (24200 without negs).
     Yesterday, Chris won for the first time.

     I commented to my mom about these good categories: Travel Books, Celebrities' Kids' Names, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, Hit Parades, Hats All, Folks and "Pun" Intended. But it wound up being probably one of my worst rounds ever, Coryat-wise.
     I've actually read this book and enjoyed it so much I lent it to my mom. (I myself had borrowed it from the public library!) In Travel Books: "Referring to advice on facing animals, 'Whatever You Do, Don't Run' tells of Peter Allison's time as a guide on this type of trip." Unfortunately my mom had left the room and anyway I wasn't sure it was the same book til I looked it up later.
     At the first break:

     I got this triple-stumper in "Pun" Intended: "'Weaving' adjective meaning simple & unpretentious."
     The contestants were hunting for the Daily Double in Hit Parades after Mr. Trebek said there was a minute to go, but it was found at 400 with one clue after it remaining on the board. Emily got it.

     Emily wagered 2000 on this clue: "In 1893 this popular parade adopted a 'never on Sunday' policy, so the 2012 one was held on January 2." I got this but Emily didn't. She at first said "the New Year's Day parade." When asked to be more specific, she said "the New York New Year's Day parade." This was the last clue of the round.
     I got this triple-stumper in Superfoods: "These seeds from which linseed oil is obtained are full of omega-3s & may help prevent certain forms of cancer."
     Stuart found the first Daily Double of the round in Libraries.

     Stuart wagered 1800 on this clue: "Inspired by the ancient one, the New Biblioteca of this city opened in 2002."

     I also got this triple-stumper in Starts with a Question Word: "If you don't have a reason to visit this community 25 minutes south of Asheboro, N.C., just say this."
     Stuart moved into the lead with a clue worth 2000, then found the Daily Double in Sir Walter Raleigh. Mr. Trebek had given the time-running-out warning.

     He wagered 400 on this clue: "Although Raleigh never made the trip, his expedition of 1585 founded this first English colony in North America." Don't second-guess yourself. The obvious choice is right. Stuart got it too. That was the last clue of the round.
     The Final Jeopardy category was Novels. This was the clue: "Chapter 1 of this 1952 book ends, 'This is about the way the Salinas Valley was when my grandfather...settled in the foothills.'" My mom and I had the right author, and she mentioned the correct title. I went with an incorrect one though. Chris didn't get this one, and lost 1201. Like yesterday, she apparently wagered to take the lead in the hopes that Stuart would be wrong or wager nothing. Emily gave the same response and lost 4600. Mr. Trebek's reaction to Stuart's response made my mom think he was wrong, but he was right! He added 7601! So Stuart's teeny wager on an easy Daily Double didn't matter in the end, at least for the win. We'll see him tomorrow.
     My Coryat today was 14200 (19600 without negs). Wow.
