Here I am blogging unexpectedly again. I've been interested in Andy's take on this one, but hopefully we'll still get it somewhere.Berek won his first episode yesterday. He seemed to be a Jeopardy! fan himself, but we know that doesn't necessarily mean he'll stick around. Shall we find out?

I'm not sure why but I was kind of amused by Alan and Cal's bumbling tactics today. I guess because we never quite see it like this?
Did you see Alan take out his glasses and put them on right before responding correctly to this one in "A," Baby?: "A charm worn to protect against evil." And didn't it sound like he said "ambulet"? I do believe I swept this category, by the way.
Anybody know why they don't just call 'em widows (category Geneaology Glossary)?: "Relict is a rather unkind-sounding term for this grieving person." Cal got this one right (after giving her response without ringing in, at first), and the next clue was the Daily Double in the same category.

Cal wagered 1000 on this clue: "Also a zodiac sign, in English marriage records this term referred to unmarried women." I thought this was tough, and Cal didn't get it either.
I got this one right though, in the same category, and it surely helped that I just reviewed a book about it for my other blog: "A PAF, or personal ancestral file, is software from this church that's very into genealogy." Alan said "LDS? Church of Latter Day Saints? Oh, what is the Church of Latter Day Saints." Mr. Trebek goes, "We're not off to a great start here." Alan apologized!
I thought this one in Survey Says...! was undervalued at 200: "Pew Research reports these people have gone from 4 hours of household chores a week in 1965 to 10 hours today."
Phew, and that was all before the first break!

Somebody tell me how this can be, in Survey Says...!: "In 2012 Travel + Leisure readers found La Guardia the nation's worst major airport; this one, MSP, was crowned best." MSP's the absolute worst!
Mr. Trebek gave the less-than-a-minute warning, but we saw all the clues. I got this last clue in Words in World Capitals: "A bad kid in Slovakia."

Alan wagered 2300 on this clue: "On Sept. 25, 1980 the Chinese Communist party called on all its members to adhere to this policy." I got this one right! Alan gave a response just after the beep, and Mr. Trebek said, "You were nowhere near it, so don't worry about it."
Mr. Trebek gave the less-than-a-minute warning with 8 clues left. Three clues were left covered. Unfortunately Cal didn't give a complete response on the final clue (worth 2K!) until time ran out, and Alan picked it up.

The Final Jeopardy category was Pulitzer Prize-Winning Novels. This was the clue: "Its first line is 'A green hunting cap squeezed on the top of the fleshy balloon of a head." A nice thing about blogging this episode is being able to crow, "I GOT THIS RIGHT!" And it was a triple-stumper! I started reading this book not long ago and didn't finish it. Turns out starting it was all I needed. Cal lost 1600, Berek lost everything, and Alan lost 7701. Alan gaped and leaned way back when he realized he was the champ.
Train wreck though it was, I can't wait to see what Alan does Monday. My own Coryat was nothing to write home about (in fact, don't) at 19400 (23600 without negs).
