Andy's back. Apparently I had my dates mixed up on when I was blogging this week! (oops. A friendly reminder from Jeanie sorted it out!)

Now time for quarterfinal #4! Today's contestants: Jack Houston, Bill Driscoll, and Cindy Cammarn

J! round categories:
IT'S MAY
ENDS IN "X"
FAST FOOD, FAST
WHATEVER
CLASSIC NOVELS
SOCCER, THE BEAUTIFUL GAME

Some early Daily Double hunting took place; with our contestants taking some higher-valued clues early on! It was Cindy who found it, on the 6th clue of the round, under CLASSIC NOVELS $1000. The scores were:

Jack $1,000
Bill $1,000
Cindy $800

Cindy bet $1,000. Her clue: In this novel, banned in the U.S. until 1933, Molly Bloom & Stephen Dedalus represent Penelope & Telemachus. Her immediate correct response put her at $1,800.

I was disappointed by the following Triple Stumper, at SOCCER $200: Soccer is also called this type of "football", hence the short form "soccer". Next beef, on the next clue: If a player gets closer to the opposing goal than both the ball & the second-last defender, this can be called. Jack added an extra "s" on the end and was given credit. In soccer, that's not the correct term for it!

By the end of 15 clues, the scores were:
Cindy $4,200
Bill $2,200
Jack $2,000

Jack gave up Facebook for Lent. While I haven't done that personally, I've heard of others that have. I really wish that Alex wouldn't make it sound so unique!

Obviously Jack has never been to "Five Guys" -- he gave that as the answer to FAST FOOD FAST $600 (Dave's Hot & Juicy Half Pound Double); I have been to Five Guys, and their menu doesn't have fancy names like that!

By the end of 30 clues, the scores were:
Cindy $4,400
Jack $4,000
Bill $3,000

DJ! round categories:
YOU'RE CRAZY, ME DRIVING?
TV SHOWS BY CHARACTERS
WE HAVE A NEW STATE CAPITAL
RHYME THIS!
COMPOSERS & THEIR MUSIC
THE ABEL PRIZE

Bill continued with his Daily Double hunting to start the round. In spite of drawing negs at $1200 and $1600 in COMPOSERS... on the opening two clues, he went to $2000 next and found the Daily Double! Scores were:

Cindy $4,400
Jack $2,400
Bill $200

Bill bet just $1,000. His clue: May 2013 marks the 100th anniversary of the premiere of this Stravinsky work & the accompanying riot. His correct response put him at $1,200.

Following that, the hunt continued, and Bill knocked off the second one two clues later, at WE HAVE A NEW STATE CAPITAL $1200. Scores here were:

Cindy $4,400
Jack $2,400
Bill $1,200

Bill did bet the maximum $2,000 this time. His clue: Replacing Wheeling. His response of "Montpelier" dropped him to -$800.

Meanwhile, Bill went over to THE ABEL PRIZE after Cindy wanted TV SHOWS BY CHARACTERS, a category she did well in! As we went through the round, it was mostly Cindy's day! Scores going into Final:

Cindy $15,200
Bill $8,800
Jack $4,400

FJ! category: THE CONTINENTS

FJ! clue: It's the continent that's home to the most U.N. member countries, including a new one added in 2011

At one time at trivia, as a league-deciding list question, I asked my teams to attempt to name all 54 of them. One team actually went 54 for 54!

Jack 4400 + 4000 = 8400
Bill 8800 - 8799 = 1
Cindy 15200 - 2500 = 12700

Cindy's the automatic semifinalist!

Wild Card standings:

Monday's winner: Hannah Shoenhard
Tuesday's winner: Jim Coury
Wednesday's winner: Trevor Walker
Thursday's winner: Cindy Cammarn
1. Kristen Jolley $19,000
2. Julia Sprangers $16,400
3. Daniel Donohue $14,000
4. Jed Silver $9,199
5. Jack Houston $8,400
6. Paige Radtke $1,599
7. Bill Driscoll $1 ($8,800 pre-Final)
8. Taylor Roth $1 ($6,000 pre-Final)

Jed's still in with an outside shot; if he makes it through, watch out for him! He had a lot of high-valued gets in his quarterfinal...

Jeanie will have the recap tomorrow; I'll be back next week!
