Hey! Andy here, and here are some thoughts of mine going into this week's online Jeopardy! contestant tests!
Step 1, if you haven't done this already: Go to http://www.jeopardy.com/onlinetests/adult and sign up. The tests are Tuesday at 7pm Eastern, Wednesday at 8pm Eastern, and Thursday at 10pm Eastern.
If you're interested in knowing what you're up against: Here are the transcripts of last year's online tests.
Eastern: http://jboard.tv/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=1133
Central: http://jboard.tv/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=1137
Pacific: http://jboard.tv/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=1140
Setting Goals
It's always said that a passing score on the test is 35 out of 50! That is a tough score to attain, so I don't blame you if you're taking "for fun" and set a lesser goal!
If it's not your first rodeo, then a good goal is either 35, of course, or even a better score than you got last time!
Personally? My goal is 35. I'll be writing Tuesday.
During The Test
The online test FAQs (http://www.jeopardy.com/onlinetests/adult/faqs/) are always a good source of information!
Remember that you have only 15 seconds to answer after seeing the question! It's not a lot of time, but if you do have the answer quickly, you can submit and move on to the next clue before the 15 seconds are up. I don't do that, myself -- as anything you have typed into the response field will be automatically captured when time expires. You might as well use all of the time you have and get into a rhythm!
If you're a slow typist, it might be a good idea to get a friend or family member to act as your typist while you orally give the answers to them! (You should be the only one giving answers, though, of course!)
Afterwards
It is expected that jboard.tv will have the post-test transcript as it has in previous years, in case you want to see how you did afterwards! If you passed and get a callback audition, you'll get emailed a few weeks prior to the Jeopardy! team coming to your city.
Good luck!
